Ganesh Chaturthi, the grand celebration of Lord Ganesha’s birth, is one of the most sacred Hindu festivals. In 2025, this spiritually vibrant festival falls on Thursday, August 27, when homes and temples across India will welcome Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles.

🔔 Note: Be sure to avoid Rahukaal, which falls from 12:22 pm to 01:59 pm. The Shukla Yoga from 12:35 pm to 01:18 pm is also considered an auspicious time for worship.
There are four main rituals of Ganesh Chaturthi:
1. Avahana :
The process of infusing deity in idols by lighting lamps- "Deep Prajwalan" and "Sankalpa."
2. Pranapratishtha
This is the ritual of invoking life into the Ganesh idol. It includes chanting mantras and performing sacred rites to invite Lord Ganesha into the idol.
3. Shodashopachara Puja
A 16-step traditional ritualistic worship of Ganesha involving:
- Begins with washing Ganesh Ji's feet, bathing in milk, ghee, honey, curd, and sugar, followed by scent and Gangajal.
- new clothes (Vastra) is offered along with offering flowers, incense, lamps, sweets (especially modaks), and prayers.
- Reciting Vedic hymns and Ganesha stotras (prayers).
4. Uttar Puja :
A bid adieu ceremony of puja before the immersion. People congregate in one spot, whether a pandal, temple, or house, to rejoice together. Singing, dancing, and exchanging colors are all part of their routine. To bid Lord Ganesh farewell, we recite aartis and mantras.
Ganpati Visarjan: Immersion of the idol
Visarjan or Nimajjanam immersion of the idol takes place on the festival's last day. The 10th consecutive day is popularly known as Anant Chaturdashi. After the festival, these idols are submerged in a river, sea, or any water body. Thousands of devotees gather on the beaches with drums and firecrackers to say goodbye to Lord Ganpati.
